Job summary and responsibilities
Climbers perform a variety of tasks including groundwork, climbing, pruning, removals, training, driving, and dumping company vehicles. Climbers promote and encourage safety culture to help protect themselves, the team, and the public from harm.
- Pruning & Removals – Prune and remove trees according to ANSI Standards. Knowledgable in the techniques of selectively removing parts of trees and plans to foster growth, health, and regeneration.
- Climbing – Plan and execute a climbing plan implementing high safety standards, sound tree risk assessment skills, equipment inspection skills. This includes proper use of knots, climbing techniques and procedures, and rigging skills. May utilize either MRS or SRT.
- Chainsaw – Operate mechanical chainsaw powered by battery or gasoline.
- Plant species – Knowledge of the variety of plants, trees and shrubs, and their special characteristics.
- Human factors regarding safety – The considerations and implications for human safety.
- Service Orientation – Actively looking for ways to help people.
- Complex Problem Solving – Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Communication – Exchanging and conveying information, ideas, concepts, thoughts, and feelings through the use of a shared system of words, signs, and symbols.
- Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate

Tasks and Duties
- Operate chipping equipment and feed limbs and brush them into the machines.
- Operate boom trucks, loaders, stump grinders, brush chippers, trucks, and other equipment and tools.
- Clean, sharpen, and maintain tools and equipment.
- Supervise others engaged in tree work and assist with training climber trainees and apprentices.
- Engage in the morning huddle to share close calls and accidents to help learn and grow as an individual and a team
- Complete job site safety analysis for every work order and job site.
- Utilize equipment including ropes, saws, aerial lifts, and cranes.
- Utilize a green weight chart to accurately rig and load wood.
- Prune and remove trees in accordance with company and ANSI standards

Plant Health Care (PHC) Technician (Boulder)

Job summary and responsibilities
Technicians perform a variety of tasks based on the season. In the growing season, primarily performing plant health care services to trees including any combination of the following: driving to multiple sites, performing trunk injections, soil injections, pesticide spraying, and root collar excavations.
During the dormant season, technicians join our tree care team. Tree care duties may include any combination of the following: pruning, raking, rigging, driving/dumping company vehicles, use of chainsaws/handsaws, hauling logs, and chipping debris.

- Pesticide Use – Understand pesticide labels and the proper use of pesticides.
- Equipment Maintenance – Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Plant identification – The ability to accurately name trees and shrubs in Colorado.
- Credentials – CDA Qualified Applicator or Supervisor (Not required)
Tasks and Duties
- Performs aerial sprays safely with minimal impact on non-target organisms, such as flowers, wildlife, and other vegetation
- Dragging hoses through complex and detailed landscapes (Must be able to lift/carry 70 lbs.)
- Fertilizes/Waters trees using a soil probe. Recognize and spot patterns in landscapes to avoid irrigation damage
- Performs root collar excavation using hand tools. Identify and address girdling roots and other subterranean issues.
- Performs systemic trunk injections on a variety of tree species
- Identify pest pressures, biotic stressors, abiotic stressors and reports these to client arborist and client
- Perform conversions and calculations to determine the appropriate rates needed for mixing and applying a wide variety of pesticides and other products
- Keep a written maintenance log about the operation of equipment and vehicles used and reports it to the PHC Coordinator
- Safely drives large spray rigs through traffic and on private properties
- Participates in weekly safety meetings and bug of the month education
